Leading the way with first rate environmental credentials

Explore

Sustainability has always driven how we think, what we produce and who we work with – and today is no different. We remain transparent while continually improving what we do, with the goal of keeping our standards high and our impact positive – for our planet, our communities, and our future.

We’re committed to ensuring our processes and standards are of the highest quality and have put an ambitious certification roadmap in place. Supporting our drive for relentless progress, working towards new accreditations keeps us accountable and makes sure we are always striving for better. By the end of 2021, all our sites will have a quality management system in place. We’re also aiming for all our sites to have achieved the Global Recycling Standard and adopted the Higg Index suite of tools by 2022.

GRS

We’re very proud that Texon Dongguan has already achieved Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification – a standard that verifies the presence and amount of recycled material in fabrics and tracks the flow of raw materials from source to final product. GRS certification gives our customers confidence that our products will meet their expectations when it comes to recycled content. It also proves that the practices used in their production are sound and can be substantiated. Examples of products readily available with GRS certification include our eco-conscious counters, Texon Halo, which contain 50% recycled content and are supplied net.

Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC®), Cradle to Cradle and OEKO-TEX®

We have additional environmental credentials in place for products such as Texon Vogue, which can be made from 100% FSC cellulose wood pulp. FSC certification ensures the wood pulp we use comes from responsibly managed forests that deliver environmental, social, and economic benefits. FSC certification is the most rigorous international standard for responsible forestry and ensures that certified wood products are tracked from forest to final product.

Texon Vogue also meets the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® 16.0.81230 Hohenstein HTTI certification. This tests for harmful substances on textiles that come into close contact with skin. In addition, our Texon Vogue Sahara product is also Cradle to Cradle Certified™ (Gold level) – a globally recognised measure of safer, more sustainable products, made for the circular economy.

SAC Membership

In 2019, Texon joined the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), a leading alliance for sustainable production in the apparel, footwear and textile industry. As an SAC member, we can access and contribute data to the Higg Index. This gives us a means of accurately measuring and scoring the sustainability of our business and our products.

Our drive to achieve Zero Waste by 2025 is progressing thanks to the successful completion of the Higg Index Facilities Environmental Module (Higg FEM) at our Dongguan, Möckmühl and Skelton facilities. This verification process is an important tool, promoted by many major brands, who use it to assess the sustainability of suppliers.

SATRA

Dongguan reached another significant milestone at the end of 2020, joining Möckmühl and Ripatransone in achieving SATRA Laboratory Accreditation Status. SATRA’s Accredited Laboratory programme is a stamp of quality that is recognised throughout the global footwear and leather goods industries. This is yet another endorsement that reinforces our commitment to sustainability, the health and safety of our employees, and the high standards we set for our products.

ISO

Our manufacturing sites in Möckmühl, Germany; Ripatransone, Italy; Dongguan, China; and Skelton, UK are all ISO 9001 accredited for their quality management systems, while Dongguan and Skelton are also ISO 14001 accredited for effective environmental management systems. We’re equally dedicated to being more energy efficient and our Dongguan and Möckmühl sites have already received ISO 50001 accreditation for energy management.

ISO are the recognised global standards for products, services and systems which ensure quality, safety and efficiency. In order to achieve the standards, sites have to be rigorously tested by leading international experts in ISO testing and product certification.

Firm plans for the future

Sustainability remains one of the biggest topics we talk about with our customers and our team is always on hand to discuss how we can work together to meet environmental goals using our innovative products. Moving forwards, life cycle analysis (LCA) is becoming a central issue for all major brands. Now we can account for how we make our products, the materials we use and how we deliver them, the next step is tackling what happens to them at the end of their life.

Discover how we are prioritising our responsibility to the planet in our latest sustainability report.
