Texon branches out its sustainability work with pledge to plant trees to mark World Environment Day

Explore

To mark World Environment Day on Saturday 5 June, Texon has announced that it plans to plant one tree for each of its employees. The business has also pledged to plant an extra tree for every ‘like’ it gets on its ‘Tap to Tree’ social media posts over the next five days (up to a maximum of 1,000 trees in total).

The Texon #TapToTree initiative forms part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its journey to zero waste. To bring its #TapToTree concept to life, Texon will make a donation to One Tree Planted – a not for profit organization focused on global reforestation that funds reforestation schemes in North and Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Boyd Mulder, Director of NPDI, Marketing and Sustainability at Texon, said:

“We wanted to do something meaningful to mark World Environment Day 2021, which heralds the start of the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. As a Forest Stewardship Council accredited business, planting a tree for each of our employees was the obvious choice. As Texon continues to grow, we’re more conscious than ever about our commitment to sustainability.”

“Day to day we’re rolling up our sleeves to help some of the biggest names in footwear and fashion create more sustainable products. From a practical perspective we’re continually pushing the boundaries to improve our own processes – whether that’s reducing our carbon footprint; cutting our use of virgin materials; or carefully managing our water consumption. CSR projects like #TapToTree, add another important layer to this work – reinforcing our passion for protecting the planet and doing everything in our power to keep our impact positive.”

Texon is aiming to be a zero waste business by 2025 and recently published its second annual sustainability report, documenting its progress against four specific environmental goals.
