Texon launches Reform 2.0 heel counter with more sustainably sourced content – reinforcing commitment to reduce its use of virgin materials
Texon – a leader in eco-friendly material solutions for the footwear sector – today announced the launch of Reform 2.0, a new and improved version of its trailblazing heel counter.
Now containing up to 66% sustainably sourced content, whilst offering the same physical traits as its predecessor, Texon Reform 2.0 proves that footwear manufacturers don’t have to choose between high performance and sustainability when specifying structural components to incorporate into athletic, casual, dress, outdoor or safety shoes.
Building on the long-standing legacy of Texon Reform – which is trusted by many of the world’s leading footwear brands – Texon Reform 2.0 contains more recycled content from post-consumer waste such as ocean-bound plastic bottles. Texon estimates that for every one million pairs of shoes containing Reform 2.0, more than 500,000 bottles will be diverted from landfill.
As part of a closed loop production process, Reform 2.0 contains content from post-industrial cutting waste, taken back from Tier 1 factories. Working this way, Texon anticipates that around 300MT of cutting waste can be saved from landfill each year. The heel counter’s hot melt adhesive layer also contains 45% bio-based content derived from pine tree resin.
Reform 2.0 sustainable content breakdown:
From a performance perspective, Reform 2.0 continues to offer the best of both impregnated and extrusion technologies; is resistant to moisture breakdown; has excellent wear properties; and provides the perfect balance of stiffness and resilience.
Bryan Whitfield, Group Sales Director at Texon, said:
“Many of the world’s leading footwear brands already specify Reform as their preferred heel counter. Building on the legacy of our pioneering product, which we first launched in 1998, we’ve substantially increased the recycled and renewable content of this popular structural solution – without compromising its performance. Providing the footwear industry with a component that they know and trust, but with even better eco credentials, shows us innovating to deliver on our own sustainability goals and those of our customers.”
Texon’s ambition is zero waste by 2025. The business actively promotes the protection of the environment through product innovation and conscientious process management. Texon Reform 2.0 epitomises that commitment – delivering another product that’s better all round, for people and planet.
Texon Reform 2.0 is available in sheet form 1.00m x 1.45m or in rolls – with a single or double adhesive coating. It can also be delivered pre-cut, skived and ready to use.
