Texon sponsor Washpapa sustainability design challenge


Washpapa, Texon’s distributor for Texon Vogue in Poland and the Baltics, recently held its annual #washapapachallenge. Every year the team at Washpapa asks designers within its creative community to produce a beautiful design, using a quantity of washpapa (Texon Vogue), plus other materials that it specifies as part of the competition brief.

Reflecting Texon’s sustainability ambition

This year, the central themes of the challenge were less waste and upcycling which also reflects Texon’s sustainability journey and zero waste ambition. Participants were asked to design an item or an accessory – initially on paper – using half a washpapa sheet and two legs of scrap denim. Washpapa then invited 18 contestants to make their designs a reality. Finalists were sent the materials and given seven days to produce their item and post pictures of it on Instagram and Facebook, ready for judging. As always, the submissions were of an incredibly high standard.

And the winners are….

  • 1st place: Joanka Z, a Polish craftswoman, who designed a purse / organizer that combined elements of washpapa and denim, dyed with nettles. The use of nettle dye was also reflected in the design of the purse, which features a leaf motif.
  • 2nd place: Jointly awarded to Mazu and Sew Side, two designers who made very different but perfectly sewn bags.
  • 3rd place: Ewa Pasinska, who created an exquisite patchwork using tiny pieces of washpapa, denim and linen.






This year Washpapa also gave out two awards on behalf of Texon; one to Just Made for a unique patchwork jacket; and one to Martyna Anna for a painting of Frida Kahlo on washpapa.
