Texon’s sustainable partner spotlight: PRS Pooling

Explore

Our Skelton site, UK recently received their annual PRS Green Label certificate, in recognition of the site’s contribution to a more sustainable world by active participation in the circular PRS network. At Texon, we’ve been collaborating with PRS Pooling for over 10 years, so we caught up with Richard Jackson, Procurement and Planning Specialist, to find out more about our sustainable partner.

Who are PRS?

PRS was created in 1997 on the initiative of the polymer industry, with an aim to provide full-service, sustainable pallet pooling solutions. The timber used for the pallets comes from sustainable sources that are either FSC or PEFC certified. Plus, the circular pooling system for re-use and recycling is, by design, perfectly positioned to contribute to and facilitate partner’s own circularity ambitions.

Why do we work with PRS?

Our ambition of zero waste by 2025 is about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible when it comes to sustainability. Finding pioneering new solutions that help drive change right across our industry. We receive a number of raw materials on PRS pallets which we then collect and return, working together for a circular world.

How many PRS pallets do we receive and return on average each month?

Approximately 80 PRS pallets are recollected from Skelton each month. Other non-PRS pallets are also kept at Skelton after use and resold back to a supplier, with the money collected going into a site donation pot and distributed to local charities!

What is the PRS Green Label?

The PRS Green Label awards all active partners in the network of polymer producers, converters, distributors, suppliers, depots and carriers that are contributing to a better environment.

Richard commented:

“It’s great to be able to continuously work with and be recognised by partners who are equally inspired to build a more sustainable world. Together we’re cutting down on waste and reducing our carbon footprint, because for every seven pallets collected for reuse, one tree is saved. At the end of their life PRS also turns pallets into biomass which is then used as energy to dry and heat treat new pallets.”
